Good news for six schools in the rural and maritime areas as they were given a boat each by the Education Ministry today.

Out of the six schools, two were from Sigatoka which are Bemana District School and Raunitogo Primary School, two from Kadavu which are Dravuni Primary School and Drue Village School, Nairai Village School from Lomaiviti and Laucala District School in Taveuni.

While speaking at the handing over ceremony, Minister for Education, Rosy Akbar says this season is all about giving and sharing and the Education Ministry could not find any better day to handover these boats to the schools.

Akbar says these schools are in very remote areas and this initiative will help the students to come to school on time.

She says every year the Education Ministry allocates $200,000 to assist rural and maritime areas with such initiatives.

The Headteacher of Raunitogo Primary School, Yogesh Kumar Rattan says this is a very opportune time for the school to receive the boat as Christmas falls tomorrow.

The Headteacher of Drue Village School, David Tuirade has also thanked the Education Ministry on behalf of the two schools in Kadavu.

Meanwhile, the Education Ministry's staff also held its Christmas celebration at  Waisomo House.
