Michael Leitch who has links to Fiji has been nominated for The Rugby Union Writers’ Club Personality of the Year for 2019.
Leitch captained Japan in the Rugby World Cup where Japan played the quarter-final for the first time in their history.
Springboks captain Siya Kolisi, team-mate Faf de Klerk and former coach Rassie Erasmus have also been nominated.
Greats of the game whose names have been engraved on the winners’ trophy in the past include David Campese, the late Jonah Lomu, Martin Johnson, Jonny Wilkinson, Brian O’Driscoll and Dan Carter.
The current holder is Ireland’s Jonathan Sexton.
The awards will be held later this month.
