The Consumer Council of Fiji says they managed to solve 44 of the 54 cases they received in regards to illegal rent increase by landlords from the 1st of January last year.

The Council says in the 44 cases they managed to solve, refunds were issued, respondents were reminded on the rent freeze order and they had agreed not to increase rent and clarifications on the rent freeze order were sought after.

The Council also says 5 cases were closed as weak due to lack of evidence to prove increase in rent and also included no/lack of response from the complainants.

They further say 2 cases have been referred to Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission and there are 3 pending cases.

Meanwhile, the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission has announced the extension of the rent freeze policy which will now run till the 31st of December this year.
