A man has been sentenced to nine years, two months and 14 days imprisonment for attempting to import 3 million dollars worth of methamphetamine into Fiji.
Sosiceni Toa was found guilty of attempting to import 21 kilograms of methamphetamine using an industrial pressure cooker in July 2015.
The drugs were detected by Customs Border Patrol Officers at Los Angeles International Airport whereby they alerted the Fiji Police Force.
The agencies involved say the success of this case is a positive result of collaboration between local and international law enforcement agencies including the US Customs and Border Protection, New Zealand Customs Services, Australian Federal Police, Fiji Revenue and Customs Service and the Fiji Police Force.
He is eligible for parole after eight years imprisonment.
