Mark Nawaqanitawase scored two tries on his Super Rugby debut but it was not enough as the Crusaders started their 2020 Super Rugby campaign with a convincing 43-25 win over the Waratahs in Nelson.

A try each from Will Jordan, Braydon Ennor, and Leicester Faingaanuku saw the three time defending champions lead 22-6 at the break.

Two tries in quick succession from Nawaqanitawase brought the Waratahs back within reach of the Crusaders.

Braydon Ennor and Will Jordan then scored their second tries of the match before Luke Romano crossed over to secure the win.

Alex Newsome got a late consolation try for the Waratahs.

In another match this morning, the Stormers thrashed the Hurricanes 27-0.

Meanwhile, the Jaguares will face the Lions at 11am.
