The Philippines are reporting the first Novel Coronavirus death outside of China, a 44-year-old man from Wuhan who developed pneumonia.
The Philippines Department of Health says a 44-year-old Chinese man from Wuhan was admitted on January 25 after experiencing fever, cough, and sore throat.
They say the man developed severe pneumonia, and in his last few days, “the patient was stable and showed signs of improvement, however, the condition of the patient deteriorated within his last 24 hours resulting in his demise”.
The death toll from the Novel Coronavirus now stands at more than 300.
The BBC reports that 294 deaths have been recorded in Hubei province, where the virus originated.
Across China there were 2,590 new confirmed infections, bringing the total number of cases in the country to 14,380.
About 100 cases have been identified outside China. The UK, US, Australia, Russia and Germany have all confirmed cases in recent days.
