Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s co-captain, Meli Derenalagi says it was challenging to fill in as captain for the national side.
Derenalagi has thanked senior teammates like Jerry Tuwai, Sevuloni Mocenacagi and Waisea Nacuqu for helping him lead the team.
Derenalagi was named the co-captain after Paula Dranisinukula was injured in the Cape Town 7s.
He was also named the 2018/2019 Rookie Player of the Year.
Meanwhile, fans turned up in numbers at the Nadi International Airport to welcome the Fiji Men’s and Women’s national 7s team last night.
The men’s team won the title in Sydney while the women’s team finished 5th.
Following their winning performance in the Sydney 7s, Fiji now sits at fifth spot in the HSBC World Rugby 7s standing with 53 points while New Zealand are still series leaders with 76 points.
The Men's World Series resumes in Los Angeles at the end of the month.
