Blues wing Rieko Ioane has been ruled out of Super Rugby for a prolonged period with a fractured hand.
Ioane's injury isn't the only major concern for Blues coach Leon MacDonald following his side's 37-29 loss to the Chiefs in the opening round of Super Rugby last Friday night.
Hooker Ray Niuia has picked up a season-ending knee injury and prop Alex Hodgman is out for a number of weeks with a calf tear.
The Blues travel across the Tasman in week two to take on the Warratahs on Saturday.
