The Accident Compensation Commission of Fiji has made a payment of $75,000 to the wife of the late, Vilikesa Guva who died due to a heart attack at work.
Guva was the Principal Corrections Officer at Fiji Corrections Service and passed away on 17th April last year.
The Accident Compensation Commission of Fiji does necessary checks with health staff in relation to deaths at workplaces and in Guva’s case, it was found that his heart attack was work-related.
This payment falls in the category of death arising out of and in the course of employment.

Guva was the sole breadwinner for his family and is survived by his wife, children and grandchildren.
His wife, Marama Buli Guva says she is grateful to the ACCF team for the assistance.
The Accident Compensation Commission of Fiji says if a worker suffers any personal injury as a result of an accident arising out of and in the course of employment, the worker’s employer must report the accident to the Permanent Secretary responsible for Employment and ACCF within 14 days from the date the employer becomes aware of the accident and injury.
If a worker dies as a result of an accident arising out of and in the course of employment, the worker’s employer must report the death of the worker to the Permanent Secretary responsible for Employment and ACCF within 7 days from the date that the employer becomes aware of the accident and death.
