The CEO of Land Transport Authority, Samuel Simpson has made it clear that all taxis need to have fire extinguishers as it is a safety issue.

He says they have also not received any report from police to establish that fire extinguishers have been used as a weapon to attack taxi drivers.

Simpson says they will continue with this policy where all taxis will need to have fire extinguishers as it can be used to put out fire in a taxi.

The Fiji Taxi Association does not want fire extinguishers to be kept in taxis as according to them, it is not safe and fire extinguishers could be used as a weapon to attack taxi drivers.

General Secretary, Ashwin Lal says if the issue is about fire,  then hybrid vehicles should not be used as taxis.
