The National Fire Authority crew averted a potential disaster in Tavua Town after a restaurant caught fire early this morning.
NFA Manager Corporate Affairs, Mileta Ting said the fire department received the call at 2.45am, and the fire fighter reached the R. Chand Curry Corner in two minutes to find the front portion of the restaurant on fire.
She said the fire was extinguished quickly stopping it from spreading to the adjacent shops, however a computer and some other things were destroyed. NFA is investigating the cause of the fire.
Meanwhile, quick thinking of two mini bus coordinators of the Nadroga Navosa Mini Bus Association saved a hotel in Sigatoka which caught fire yesterday.
Ting said the kitchen of the True Blue Hotel caught fire, however it was extinguised by the two men, who were at their depot when the hotel staff started running out of the hotel.
She said their preliminary investigation shows that the chef had been heating up a deep frying pan of cooking oil, and probably forgot to turn of the PowerPoint switch after cooking.
