The Fiji Police Force seized a total of $76 million worth of drugs last year, a decrease by $261 million compared to the previous year.
This has been confirmed by Police Spokesperson, Inspector Atunaisa Sokomuri who said that due to continuous drug operation by police in the major drug belt area, there was a decrease in the number of marijuana plants uprooted in the country.
Inspector Sokomuri said 12,572 marijuana plants were uprooted and Navosa alone accounted for 75 percent of this amount.
He also said during Operation Vakarusa that was carried out in Tunuloa, Cakaudrove in the Northern Division, drug officers uprooted 193 plants from 7 farms.
Meanwhile, a team from the cabinet is expected to visit the Police Criminal Investigations Department tomorrow to take a look at operations of the Drug Unit which is under CID.
