The New Zealand Maori 7s rugby team is here for the Uprising Fiji International 7s not to make up the numbers but to be a force to reckon in the two day tournament.
Under the coaching of former New Zealand 7s captain Matua Parkinson the side is made up of most players playing in the provincial team.
Matua said to be in Fiji for a 7s tournament is an opportunity for this players to showcase their talent against some best teams in the country.
NZ Maori is in Pool C with Serevi and Tietjens Digicel Matai, Samurai and host Uprising.
Another NZ team Ponsonby which have the services of 5 Fijian boys is expecting a tough outing this weekend.
Kadavu lad Jona Tuitoga who played for North Harbour last season before switching sides to Ponsonby said playing at Fiji's home turf will also be difficult to any visiting team.
Ponsonby is in Pool B with France, Army and Navy.
The Uprising Fiji International 7s kicks off on Friday at 9am with Samoa playing against Nadroga and you can catch the live commentary on our sister station Viti FM.
