Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama today expressed his appreciation to those assisting both directly and indirectly to flood relief efforts around the country.
Commodore Bainimarama said this is what Fiji is about, good people who care for each other during times of trouble.
He said the Government thanks each and every one who has contributed towards the rebuilding of the lives of those that have been affected by the recent floods in the western division.
Members of the Fiji Bus Operators Association, Div Damodar of Damodar Brothers, Westpac Bank and Bank of South Pacific today presented cheques toward the Prime Minister’s Flood Relief Fund.
Westpac Bank gave $15,000 to the fund while Bank of the South Pacific gave $10,000. Both these banks have also made major contributions to flood relief through Non-Governmental Organisations.
The Prime Minister said funds collected would be distributed to relief efforts to ensure normalcy continues to be restored to those affected.
He said there is a lot of relief work going on right now and one of their priorities is getting children back into schools.
The Prime Minister is expected to make another tour of the western division this week to check on the rehabilitation works carried out by the various agencies.
