An agreement between the Fiji Fuel Retailers Association and the Land Transport Authority will now help reduce fuel thefts and improve customer service at fuel stations throughout Fiji.
LTA Chief Executive Officer, Naisa Tuinaceva said that the non-disclosure agreement will give the Association members confidential access to certain LTA data when the need arises.
Association President Baljeet Singh said that this will apply particularly when some customers drive away from service stations without paying.
He said they are more vulnerable since service stations converted to self-service last year as a cost saving measure.
However he said the closed circuit television cameras installed at some fuel stations act as a deterrent and the cameras combined with the new arrangement with the LTA, will see members able to confidentially get details from the authority to assist in tracking down fuel thieves.
Singh said that in addition, the Association members will also be able to contact customers who forget their wallet, other personal item or fuel cap at the service station.
He said the new agreement will become part of their effort to improve customer relations and service.
