The Fijian Government has spent an estimated $740 million on domestic violence till the end of last year.

This was revealed by Social Welfare, Women and Poverty Alleviation Ministry Permanent Secretary Govind Sami.

He said this is a massive increase as in 2002 the cost of domestic violence was around $200 million and includes medical costs, police expenses, social welfare and prison services.

Sami highlights that this is the cost paid for silence and slumber but people should now learn to become agents of change and report cases of domestic violence.
