Westfield Saunaka rugby club is $40,000 richer today after winning the Vatukoula Sevens tournament.
Westfield Saunaka team which hails from Saunaka, Nadi beat Police 19-17 in the main final.
Police was leading 12-7 at half time but Pio Tuwai was the player to watch for the Westfield Saunaka team in the second half as he played outstandingly well and led his team for the memorable win.
Westfield Saunaka coach Vilive Koroitai said it was a team effort put in by his young brigade.
Koroitai said some of his players are still schooling at Ratu Navula College and this win will certainly lift their confidence at this tender age.
In the semi-finals, Westfield Saunaka defeated Waimanu 17-12 in the sudden death while Police defeated Ratu Filise 22-5 in the second semi-final.
In the quarter-finals earlier today, Westfield Saunaka beat Samurai Barracuda’s 22-12, Waimanu upset Army 19-14, Ratu Filise defeated Warwick 17-7 and Police beat Uluinakau Babas 19-0.
