The new double-story complex at the Lautoka Hospital is not only expected to be the pride of the city but is expected to improve the service of the hospital in terms of better flow of patients once completed.
Lautoka Hospital Acting Medical Superintendent Dr. Luisa Ratou said the new complex will house two departments the Accident and Emergency and the new operating theater .
Ratou said they are not expecting an increase in the number of patients but they are anticipating members of the public to enjoy a more spacious and free flow service at the new complex.
Ratou said the A&E which will be located on the ground floor will increase its number of beds to 12 from the 4 they currently have.
She said there will be five new operating theater on the top floor which will cater for overseas visiting teams and the local surgeons on their elective surgery.
She added the total cost of the equipments for the new departments costs $1.2 million while the whole project costs $12.4 million.
The new complex is expected to open before the end of this year which will cater for approximately 360,000 people from Sigatoka to Rakiraki.
