Government MP, Alexander O'Connor has questioned the Ministry of Finance on whether they will consider having government service centres where repairs and maintenance of government-owned vehicles can take place.
Speaking during the Public Accounts Committee meeting, O'Connor said that the government had service centres in Walu Bay, Lautoka and Labasa which are now defunct.
Another Government MP, Mohammed Dean then questioned the Finance Ministry in relation to government-owned vehicles repaired by private companies.
Dean told the top officials of the Ministry of Finance that he has worked in government departments before and has some personal experiences in relation to this.
The Director of Government Fleet Services in the Ministry of Finance, Imtiaz Abdul says some of the vehicles that are currently being used by the Ministry of Infrastructure are 15 to 18 years old.
He says they are trying to replace these vehicles as soon as possible with the leased vehicles.
Meanwhile, Permanent Secretary for Finance, Makereta Konrote says they will go ahead with the vehicle leasing program which is the government policy.
