The Fiji Revenue and Customs Authority will soon put gadgets in all cash registers in supermarkets and other stores.
Acting General Manager Taxation, Fazrul Rahiman says FRCA will receive real time data in their office as soon as someone purchases an item at a supermarket.
While speaking in the Public Accounts Committee meeting today, Rahiman says the idea is to get the true sales at a store.
He says FRCA is fully resourced to put a system which will work in any situation.
FRCA's Acting CEO, Visvanath Das is currently in Germany inspecting the new system.
While making a presentation to the committee today, Rahiman has revealed that there is $2.8 billion of movement of funds in the Fijian economy which is not formally recorded.
He says this is black economy and government is losing out $716 million in taxes.
