The escapee, Deshwar Dinesh Dutt’s wife, and his lawyer, have pleaded not guilty to the charge of aiding a prisoner to escape.
32-year-old Shiwani Vikashni Sami and 33-year-old Adi Litia Vereivalu Vateitei have both been charged with one count of aiding a prisoner to escape.
It is alleged that between the 1st of February 2017 and the 15th of December 2017 in Nadi, the 2 accused aided the prisoner Deshwar Dinesh Dutt to escape from lawful custody.
The Court has granted bail for both the accused with a surety in the sum of $1000 each and both have been issued with a stop departure ordered and told not to come into contact with the escapee.
The first accused, Shiwani Vikashni Sami who resides in Nausori has been ordered to report to the Nausori Police Station every Wednesday and Friday between 7am and 7pm.
The 2nd accused, Adi Litia Vereivalu Vateitei who resides in Nadi has been ordered to report to the to the Nadi Police Station every Wednesday and Friday from 7am and 7pm.
The two accused have also been told by the court not to re-offend whilst on bail.
The matter has been adjourned to 12th February for a mention.
Dutt escaped from the custody of Corrections Officers at the Nadi Magistrates Court on the 15th of last month.
