The Ministry of Education is planning to top up the eticketing cards of more than 62,000 continuing students by next Friday.
Speaking on behalf of the Permanent Secretary of Education, Deputy Secretary Timoci Bure says the responsibility of whether students receive their cards or not is on the parents.
He says parents have to ensure that their children are registered to get a card or have their card topped up.
The students eticketing cards roadshow has started in the Central, Western and Northern division.
Bure says they plan to cover the Eastern division next week.
At a meeting with officials from the Ministry of Education last month, Attorney General and Education Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum had instructed that strict deliverables be set out for the distribution of textbooks and e‑Transport cards to students before the start of the 2018 School Year.
Sayed‑Khaiyum had also said they cannot allow systemic issues and bureaucratic obstacles within the Ministry of Education to limit outcomes in the classroom.
The government has allocated $20 million for the bus fare subsidy scheme.
Term 1 starts on the 16th of this month.
