The Labasa soccer team were unlucky not to score against a star‑studded Lautoka side as the first leg of the Pillay Garments Champion vs Champion series ended in a 0‑0 draw at Subrail Park.

About 3,000 people turned up for the match today.

The hosts with players such as Taniela Waqa, Akuila Mataisuva, Antonio Tuivuna, Jale Dreloa and Ratu Anare had numerous chances to score but could not capitalise on their chances.

Former Labasa coach Bal Sanju Reddy who assisted the team with their preparations says they played well but there are still a lot of areas of concern.

On the other hand, Lautoka, laced with national reps, with the likes of former Labasa player and national midfielder Christopher Wasasala, Kolinio Sivoki and Dave Radrigai could not function as expected.

Lautoka coach Kamal Swami says the heat affected the players' performance.

The next leg of the CvC will be played next Friday at 7pm at Churchill Park and you can catch the live commentary on our sister station Radio Sargam on 103.4 FM.

The winner of the Champion versus Champion soccer series will get $5000 while the runner up will get $2,500.
