A 65-year-old man has been sentenced to three years and seven months imprisonment for sexually assaulting his 7-year-old granddaughter in Nasinu.
The incident occurred between 2012 and 2014 at the man's house.
The elderly man was convicted of one count of sexual assault.
High Court Judge Justice Vinsent Perera stated that the girl was under the care of her maternal grandfather and her parents were in Lautoka.
The judge said that this is a serious breach of trust.
He said the age difference between the man and his granddaughter is 52 years.
Justice Perera took into consideration that the man has already spent five months in custody.
A non-parole period of two years and seven months has been fixed.
