Fiji won three gold medals and one silver medal at the Australian Weightlifting Open.
Eileen Cikamatana, Apolonia Vaivai and Taniela Rainibogi won their respective weight categories with Poama Qaqa winning a silver medal and setting a new personal best.
Apolonia Vaivai won the Women's 75Kg event with a lift of 215Kg where she snatched 95Kg and lifted 120Kg in the Clean & Jerk.
Vaivai had been nursing a back injury heading into this competition and so it is good to see her recover from this and get back into form.
Eileen Cikamatana won the Women's 90Kg category with a lift of 243Kg.
Cikamatana listed 108Kg in the Snatch and 135Kg in the Clean & Jerk.
Weightlifting Fiji says that she narrowly missed 112Kg in the snatch and 145Kg in the Clean & Jerk. If she was successful in these lifts, she would have set a new Oceania and Commonwealth record heading into the Commonwealth Games.
Cikamatana was announced as the best Female Lifter and Vaivai the third best lifter in the competition.
Meanwhile, Manueli Tulo had to abandon the competition due to a wrist problem where he was having difficulties in the snatch and did not complete the competition after his first unsuccessful lift in the Clean & Jerk.
The competition saw more than 100 athletes take part from 7 Oceania Countries.
The weightlifters now go into the last phase of training and preparation before the team departs for Gold Coast on the 30th of March for the Commonwealth Games.
