Tonga's Minister of Internal Affairs Akosita Lavulavu, and her husband, former cabinet minister 'Etuate Lavulavu, were arrested on Saturday on fraud-related charges.

Police have confirmed that the charges include three counts for obtaining by false pretenses and three counts of knowingly dealing with forged documents.

Tonga Police Commissioner, Stephen Caldwell said in further disruptions for the Tonga legislature a former prime minister, Lord Tu'ivakano, was arrested last week in connection with the investigation into passport fraud, which has already seen dozens of arrests over the past two years.
