Thousands of people that travel to Savusavu will now travel with ease after major rehabilitation work on the deteriorated sections of the Transinsular Road in Savusavu is now completed.

Fulton Hogan Hiways Construction Manager Scott Wilkinson says sections of this road needed structural repairs.

He adds the structural repairs are needed when the road fails and it is posing a risk to road users.

Wilkinson says some vehicles were forced to use the other lane just to avoid potholes, which was dangerous.

He says motorists will now have a smooth and enjoyable ride, more importantly, it will now be safer than before.

Fulton Hogan Hiways crew had removed the deteriorated material from the road and stabilised both the sites with cement.

Wilkinson says the road has been affected by years and years of normal wear and tear through the years and overloading adding that both have caused the deterioration of the road, making it impossible for motorists to avoid the numerous potholes.
