The Attorney General and Acting Minister for Infrastructure Aiyaz Sayed Khaiyum has raised his concern on a press statement issued by the National Federation Party regarding the Duguvatu Rural Electrification Project.

This was raised following his answer to the question asked by FijiFirst MP, Ashneel Sudhakar for an update on the Duguvatu Rural Electrification Project.

Sayed-Khaiyum quoted the statement that reads “Duguvatu families still in the dark despite the promises made by the Prime Minister last year”.

The Attorney General says that this is an example of cheap politics.

However, NFP Party Leader Biman Prasad says that the issue was what the people told the NFP General Secretary.

Meanwhile, Sayed-Khaiyum stresses that Members of Parliament must source correct information for the public from sources like the Budget Supplement.

He adds that not everything is politics.

Meanwhile, more than 185 residents living along Duguvatu, 4 kilometres away from the Penang Sugar Mill will soon receive electricity through the Duguvatu Rural Electrification Project which is currently underway.

Sayed Khaiyum says that $495,000 has been allocated for the project.

He adds that the tender work is expected to be carried out this month after the survey is done.

Sayed-Khaiyum says that the grid extension is expected to commence in May and will be completed by October this year.
