A student of Naitasiri Secondary School has raised serious concerns with the Minister for Education, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum that their school which is situated in the interior has not received text books.

While speaking at the National Budget Consultations at Vunimono Hall in Nausori, the student asked Sayed-Khaiyum for an  explanation stating that they are from a rural area.

Sayed-Khaiyum then told the students present at the consultations that the student has asked a valid question.

The Education Minister told the students that at the end of last year, he had a meeting with all the officials of the Ministry of Education and told them that everybody must have a textbook on the first day of school this year.

Sayed-Khaiyum says the officials from the Ministry of Education had told him that it was done.

Sayed-Khaiyum also took notes from other students who also said they have not received textbooks.

Meanwhile, the student from Naitasiri Secondary School has also told Sayed-Khaiyum as part of her National Budget submission for a Technical College to be opened in Naitasiri.

The student said that there is great need for a Technical College  in Naitasiri as many students want to go into vocational studies.
She says they know that there is a Technical College in Nausori however it’s really hard for them to travel from Naitasiri to Nausori.
