In Fiji, commemorating both Good Friday which is the day of Jesus’s crucifixion, and Easter Sunday, the day of the miraculous resurrection is the Fijian way to appreciate and openly share in the celebrations of all faiths, because as Fijians, we are bonded by a national identity and common love that has guided our great progress as a nation and led us to newfound heights of achievement.
This was highlighted by the Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama in his Easter message adding that it is marked as public holidays out of respect for the Christian faith, and so that all may welcome the wonderful messages of devotion, redemption, love and peace that Easter holds for Christians, every Fijian, and every person on earth.
Bainimarama says that the Easter message holds special significance for us all, as we have embarked on a new path of our own in a new Fiji, a Fiji united through our love for one another, a prosperous Fiji, and a Fiji filled with tremendous, unbridled optimism for our future.
The Prime Minister says in the Christian faith, Easter Sunday is the turning point, an event that freed mankind from sin, created new life and new purpose, and returned the world to goodness and truth.
Bainimarama has also urged people during celebrations this holiday weekend, to take precautions given the heavy rains being experienced throughout the country.
He says this Easter, he prays God's light shine across Fiji and on every Fijian and that God's divine love continues to inspire our love for another and for our beloved Fiji.
Meanwhile, the Leader of Opposition, Ro Teimumu Kepa highlighted in her Easter message this weekend Fiji will join the world to mark the Easter celebrations in honour of our Lord and Saviour.
She adds that it provides us an opportunity to reflect back upon the teachings of Christ and emulate biblical values to reshape our lives and make meaningful contributions towards the moral and social development of our society.
Ro Teimumu says that the marking of Easter this year opens up the opportunity to seek divine intervention for a righteous life adding that Easter is about making sacrifice of our ego over selfishness and shun the path of confrontation.
