The National Disaster Management Office says the clean-up campaign around different municipalities severely affected by the flooding will take at least two days. 

Nadi Town and Ba Town, two of the most affected municipalities was the focus of disaster response teams today.

The National Disaster Management Director, Anare Leweniqila says they are also working on cleaning classrooms that were used as evacuation centres and are also distributing emergency ration packs.

Leweniqila says the Education Ministry will give necessary advice if some schools being used as evacuation centres are not ready by tomorrow.

He says at the moment 1,869 people are in 35 evacuation centres in the Western Division.

The severe flooding caused by the rain brought by Tropical Cyclone Josie has claimed four lives with the search for another missing person continuing this hour.

Police confirm they are continuing the search for a 19‑year‑old man who was washed away by flood waters near a river in Sabeto in Nadi.

Two people were found in the Uciwai River in Nadi after being swept away by strong currents.

The 55‑year‑old man and 25‑year‑old woman were in a vehicle washed away by strong currents on the Uciwai Bridge.

A 52‑year‑old woman was found in a river in Vatulaulau in Ba after being swept away by strong currents while the body of a 59‑year‑old man was found in Drasa in Lautoka.
