Some roads in the Northern Division are closed due to flooding.
The Fiji Roads Authority has confirmed that the following roads are closed due to flooding.
In Labasa:
Qelemumu Crossing on Qelemumu Road ,Nasarava Crossing on Nasarava Road, Navakuru on Nakorotari Road, Nakama Crossing on Naduna Road, Vuniyalayala Crossing on Vuniyalayala Road and Dreketilailai Crossing on Bulileka Road are closed to traffic.
In Natua - Seaqaqa:
Banikea Crossing in Banikea/ Kavula , Colo Crossing in Kawakawavesi, Lalakoro Crossing in Lalakoro, Buavou Crossing in Buavou and Zailav Crossing on Zailav Road are closed to traffic.
People living in the low lying areas in the Northern Division are being urgent to high ground as river flooding is expected to affect many parts of the North from later today into the weekend.
Divisional Police Commander SSP Eparama Waqa says there are 6 evacuation centres in Labasa which are sheltering 67 families.
SSP Waqa says the 6 families which were sheltering in Vunivesi in Savusavu have returned to their homes to start their clean up for now.
He says the officers are ready to attend to calls for help.
SSP Waqa says they have arranged for boats to access areas that are flooded, to transport people to evacuation centers.
