Minister for Housing Parveen Bala has confirmed that 773 households of Vunivau settlement in Labasa will get 99 year leases this year.

At a consultation in Labasa Bala highlighted that the land lease will be given after the completion of civil works in the area.

Bala has clarified that the government’s policy states that if tenants have a house in the town area and another house on rent in Vunivau then they will not receive the lease.

He says only those people who are staying in Vunivau and do not have a lease will receive it.

The Minister says at the moment some tenants have 2 types of lease which are Tenancy at Will and Agreement Lease and both are not proper leases. He says banks will not give loans to these type of lease holders.

Bala says holders will have to surrender these leases in order to receive the 99 year lease.

He says those tenants who have an agricultural lease will have their lease renewed.
