A new System will soon be implemented by the Department of Social Welfare to provide a better tracking update on children who are under the Child Care Protection Scheme of the Ministry of Children and Poverty Alleviation.

This was confirmed by the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Children and Poverty Alleviation, Dr Josefa Koroivueta who says that this is an urgent need to the Ministry.

Koroivueta says that some individuals under the care have exceeded the age limit bound to receive the assistance, however they are still receiving the service due to the lack of proper tracking device.

He adds that there is no proper system at the moment and everything is done manually.

The new system will track the age of the child and will automatically give an indication once the child reaches 18 years of age, thus this will allow the Department to review and make changes to their data.

The scheme covers the children who are raised by a single parent whose income falls below the Poverty line.
