Close to 300 dairy farmers will be protected by insurance for the first time in Fiji after the announcement of the first ever micro-insurance scheme for dairy farmers.
While making the announcement, Fiji Co-operative Dairy Company Limited CEO, Sachida Nand says that the micro-insurance scheme includes term life and funeral expenses, fire insurance on the house and household property of the farmers and personal accident coverage.
Nand adds that the micro-insurance scheme that is done in conjunction with Fiji Care has a combined cover of $10,000 that include life and funeral cover of $4,000, a personal accident cover of $3,000 and a fire insurance cover of $3,000.
He has also highlighted that the Fiji Cooperative Dairy Company Limited is currently looking at working to have insurance cover for farmers in the case of a natural disaster.
Nand says that the insurance scheme will be rolled out to farmers in Tailevu, Naitasiri and Navua before including dairy farmers in other parts of the country adding that they are also looking to include other livestock and cash crop farmers.
