A man has been sentenced in absentia by the Savusavu Magistrates Court for one count of Act With Intent To Cause Grievous Harm.
He has been sentenced to 1 year, 9 months, and 1 week imprisonment.
The sentence will run from the date the man is arrested as ran away from custody last year.
He pleaded guilty to hitting his wife with an empty beer bottle causing visible injuries on her head.
The incident happened during a drinking session.
It was heard in court that during the caution interview, the accused admitted that he was doing it for fun.
The court considered that there was no special circumstance to suspend the sentence and a permanent domestic violence restraining order has been issued to protect the victim.
