It was an unreal moment for thirteen year old student Elizabeth Laqere from Saraswati Primary School in Manoca when she was selected to represent Fiji at the Football for Friendship Program which will be held alongside the FIFA World Cup in Russia this month.

Laqere will be travelling on an airplane for the first time and will be going with her grandmother.

She is the niece of Rewa soccer players Iosefo Verevou and Epeli Saukuru.

Fiji Football Association says Laqere was chosen because she is a skillful soccer player.

They will be accompanied by Mohammed Hayyaan Khan a Year 8 student of Karavi Muslim School, who will be going as an aspiring journalist.

Laqere and Khan will be leaving the country tomorrow and will be in Russia from the 8th to the 15th of this month.

The Football for Friendship Program brings together young people from 211 countries and  encourages them to participate in games while upholding the values of friendship, equality, peace and respect.

The program is organised by Gazprom, official partner of FIFA and major sponsor of the World Cup Russia 2018.
