A plastic bag study conducted by the Department of Environment has revealed that the minimum number of plastic bags used annually is around 50 to 60 million in Fiji. 

This was highlighted by the Minster for Environment, Parveen Bala at the launch of the National Environment Day Campaign at the Rishikul Sanatan College.

Bala says the Fiji Government and the Japanese Government will be signing of an Agreement on solid waste management project known as the “Japanese Technical Cooperation

Project for the Promotion of Regional Initiative on Solid Management in the Pacific Island Countries.

This program basically promotes activities including Home  Composting Subsidy Program and Clean Schools program in the country, aimed to create awareness on recycling plastic materials.

The Northern Division campaign to reduce the use of plastic will also be launched on June 11th and the Western Division Campaign on the 18th of June.
