Former Fiji 7s player, Isake Katonibau who is charged with one count of serious assault, has been further remanded in custody by Magistrate Liyanage Wickramasekara.

Defence lawyer, Joseph Daurewa while submitting the bail application told to the court that Katonibau is vying for a position in the Fiji 7s team for the World Cup 7s next month.

He also said that Katonibau is the only bread winner in his family.

Katonibau allegedly assaulted a police officer on the 17th of this month.

It is alleged that the police officer came across a group of men fighting in Suva on Sunday.

It is also alleged that the officer saw Katonibau in the group and approached to stop them and while trying to stop them Katonibau allegedly punched the officer twice on his mouth.

The matter has been adjourned to tomorrow for the police prosecutor to file a response regarding the bail application.
