Three newly opened major health facilities in 2018 and more facilities to be opened, has gone in accordance with the government’s health budget announcement for 2017/2018.
The newly opened facilities include the upgraded Lautoka Emergency Department, Makoi Maternity Unit and Waimaro Health Centre in Ra.
CWM Hospital’s New Maternity Unit extension is in progress while new health facilities in Beqa, Tailevu, Tavua, Sigatoka, and Cuvu have been upgraded and opened.
Facilities in Rotuma, Nakasi, Navosa, Naduri, Ba and Lautoka are soon to be upgraded.
The National Kidney Research and Treatment Centre is operational now, for which the government had allocated $1 million.
Minister for Economy, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum had also said in the 2017/2018 budget address that the government’s first priority is to recruit 200 additional nurses and 350 doctors.
