A former proposed candidate of the National Federation Party who is facing rape charges, is currently admitted at CWM Hospital.

He is under Police guard.

Police say the 66-year-old Nadi man was complaining of chest pains.

It is alleged that the man raped a 53-year-old woman in Nasinu on Thursday night.

Police say it is alleged that the man and woman are family friends and he approached the woman if he could spend the night at her Nasinu home as he was too tired after a wedding and could not go back home.

The man allegedly started knocking on the woman’s bedroom door in the middle of the night and then forcefully got into the room.

He then allegedly raped the woman.

Police say the woman managed to free herself and then locked herself up in the bathroom.

Police were then called to the house.

NFP Leader, Professor Biman Prasad says the proposed candidate has resigned and his resignation has been accepted by NFP.

Professor Prasad says the party has issued letters to all the proposed candidates and any allegation against any criminal activity will affect their future with the party.

He says no one will be endorsed as a candidate if they have charges hanging over their heads.

Professor Prasad says just like Romanu Tikotikoca, this is where the matter ends with the party
