The leader of Jezreel Lion of Judah, Jone Cokanauto who is currently serving a 20 year sentence for rape convictions in 2017, is now facing another charge of sexual assault.
While releasing the rape and sexual offence statistics for June, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions confirmed that Cokanauto has been charged with allegedly sexually assaulting a 27-year-old woman.
The woman reported the matter after the 2017 court case.
Meanwhile 22 people were charged with a total of 37 counts of separate incidents in June.
There were 28 cases of rape, 1 case of attempted rape, 2 cases of abduction with intent, 3 cases of defilement and 3 cases of sexual assault.
15 victims were under the age of 18 years.
There was 1 male victim and 21 female victims while all accused persons were male.
There were 12 incidents where the victims and the accused were related to one another.
The DPP’s Office says in one incident a 75-year-old man was charged with allegedly raping his 3-year-old granddaughter in Bua and in another incident a 43-year-old father was charged with the rape of his 14-year-old daughter who fell pregnant after the incident in Labasa.
There were two separate incidents where 59-year-old and 38-year-old uncles were charged with allegedly raping their 8-year-old and 9-year-old nieces.
In another incident, a 29-year-old uncle has been charged with allegedly raping his 12-year-old nephew in Korovisilou.
There were two incidents of marital rape where a 32-year-old and a 43-year-old were charged with the rape of their 23-year-old and 36-year-old wives.
In a separate incident a 33-year-old man was charged with multiple counts of rape of his 13-year-old stepdaughter and 14-year-old niece.
The accused was also charged with an act with intent to cause grievous harm.
There were two separate incidents where a 30-year-old man was charged with the rape of his 13-year-old cousin while a 23-year-old was charged with allegedly defiling his 15-year-old cousin.
In another incident a 33-year-old man was charged with the rape of his 13-year-old adopted sister.
A 23-year-old school teacher was also charged with the defilement of a 15-year-old student in Nasinu.
There was one incident where a 29-year-old was charged with the attempted rape of his 20-year-old girlfriend in Narere.
The accused was also charged with assault.
Three cases were withdrawn.
One case was withdrawn after the victim admitted to making a false complaint, another case was
withdrawn after the victim left the country and the third case was withdrawn due to insufficient evidence.
