Six Police officers were stoned when confronting a group of men who were allegedly trying to break into a supermarket located at a complex in Nakasi yesterday.

Acting Deputy Police Commissioner, Itendra Nair says while it is extremely fortunate that no one was injured, assets however were damaged.

He says stones and beer bottles were thrown at the vehicle belonging to the Nakasi Police Station.

He says attack on police officers will not be condoned and members of the public need to respect the work of the officers who are doing their very best in ensuring the safety and security of all Fijians.

Nair says officers are judged harshly when they fail to react during these attacks and again they stress that they are an unarmed organisation and at times officers are put in situations where they have no way to defend themselves and will take necessary actions for their safety during such incidents.

He adds that all efforts are being directed towards arresting those involved.
