The 788 children who have been nurtured at Saint Christopher’s Home since 1968 have a lot to be grateful for today as many of them have done very well, and are equally respected in society.

Saint Christopher’s Home which is an orphanage based in Naulu Nakasi will celebrate its 50th Anniversary tomorrow.

Sister in Charge, Kalolaine Tuineau says the Home’s priority is that the children know God and get education.

Sister Tuineau says the Home’s success stories include a doctor who is currently practicing in Labasa, nurses, teachers and children who grew up to be loving mothers and fathers who are raising healthy families in society.

She says last year two girls graduated with Bachelor of Science degrees from FNU, and they are both working and fending for themselves now.

Sister Tuineau says the Anglican Church started the Home after it saw the need to care and protect children that had been neglected.

She says the Home receives help from the Department of Social Welfare and the Anglican Church.

She says members of the community have also cared for the children and provided help.

Sister Tuineau says they have high hopes in the future that they will have separate homes for the boys and girls.

She says children who have been raised by the Home are coming from New Zealand, Australia and Germany to celebrate the Home’s 50th Anniversary tomorrow which begins at 10am.

The youngest child at Saint Christopher’s Home is a 5 month old baby boy while the eldest is 18-years-old.
