Our next generation will face a much faster changing world than what we had experienced decades ago.
This was highlighted by the Minister for Tourism Faiyaz Koya while speaking at the Pre‑School Week Celebrations in Krishna Vedic Kindergarten School, Nausori.
Koya says globalisation, the advent of information technology and the development of a knowledge‑ based economy, are leading to changes at an unprecedented rate.
He says the knowledge children gain in school, will soon lag behind the development of society.
Koya says in the face of the changes ahead, the future generation needs to be equipped to be life‑long learners so that they can keep ahead of changes and become active and valuable members of our community.
He says while school is an important place for children's education, family members play an equally critical role in the development of a child and parents are instrumental in the personal growth and attitude of children towards life.
Koya says to prepare our children for the future, we need to provide them with the opportunities to develop skills that are needed for them to become life‑long learners and apart from knowledge, our children need to develop the skills to acquire, construct and communicate knowledge.
