Australia and Fiji are having talks on different levels about Fiji seeking finance like through the Green Climate Fund and financing models that can or might be rolled out on a household to household basis for renewable energy.
This was highlighted by Australia’s Ambassador for Environment, Patrick Suckling who is in the country as part of the Climate Action Pacific Partnership Conference.
Suckling says there are many villages in Fiji that are off grid so these talks are about getting off grid renewable energy solution to villages.
He says Australia and some other countries are talking to Fiji about renewable energy.
Suckling has also praised the Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama on his leadership and says that Bainimarama is a very good leader in coming up with a regional idea to drive a stronger response to climate change.
He says the Fiji has a strong and very powerful team in the fight against climate change.
