Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s coach Gareth Baber says that he will not let the criticism affect him and the players after finishing fourth in the Rugby World Cup 7 in San Francisco last weekend.
The national 7s side arrived yesterday at the Nadi Airport and was greeted by fans and families despite their fourth finish.
Baber says that despite having the best team on paper, he does not know what qualifies on paper as the best team.
He adds that at times they haven’t had the best team on paper and win a tournament in the World Rugby Sevens Series.
Baber says they just did not manage to do it this time.
Fiji lost to New Zealand 22‑17 in the semi‑final and went down 24‑19 to South Africa in the bronze medal playoff.
Baber was disappointed with the result and said that they have had a good season winning some tournaments but they could not produce those moments again in the last couple of tournaments.
The players will have a break and take time to spend with their families before they set their focus again on the 2018/2019 World Sevens Series which kicks off in Dubai in November.
