Elders and parents have been urged to properly equip their youths for the future.
This was highlighted by Minister for Youth and Sports Laisenia Tuitubou while speaking at Yaqaga Island in Bua on his Northern Tour.
Tuitubou says many times elders use youths to carry out communal duties but fail to prepare them adding that youths were holistically not included in important traditional ceremonies.
He says as we often say, youths are our leaders of tomorrow and so we should rope them in to understand traditional work protocols, ensure they are financially independent, and equip them with knowledge that would benefit them in the future.
Tuitubou stressed that this is crucial so that after the elders, the young people are ready to lead the community.
He also urged youths to pay very close attention to their elders’ teachings.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports is also calling on dormant and non‑registered youth clubs to register with the Ministry so they could be recognised by government and have access to various assistance.
Tuitubou has concluded his seven‑day tour to the North.
