There is no time-frame as to when construction work at the Samabula Public Convenience will resume.

The site which is located near the Post Office in Samabula used to have a public convenience before however it is not in operation for the last few years.

Fijivillage had visited the site on 27th July last year and saw that the flooring and piping works were in progress.

The Suva City Council had then stated that the new convenience will also have a facility for those living with disabilities.

However, the works have not finished and the site still has a cordoned off area and a sign which says works are in progress.

When questioned, the Special Administrator of the Suva City Council, Chandu Umaria says he cannot confirm when works will resume at the site as they have other projects to complete.

He says there are a number of other projects scattered all over Suva City and they have limited workers.

We have raised the issue several times with SCC in the last few years that the public toilet in Samabula was demolished in 2016 and it was not constructed depriving people of this public facility.

The expecting mothers have also raised the issue that while waiting for the hospital bus, opposite the Post Office, they are not able to use the public toilets as there is no public convenience at the premises.

The Council had confirmed to Fijivillage in July last year that works are expected to finish by end of November last year however this has not happened.
