You don’t fund budgets by firing people.
This was stressed by the Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum during the 2018-2019 National Budget Roadshow at the University of the South Pacific, when questioned by SODELPA Youth Leader Jope Koroisavou if sending people home is the cost people have to pay to fund such a budget.
Koroisavou says that positions are being advertised and people will be sent home from the Ministry of Education.
Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says that the teachers were laid off because of misconduct.
The Minister also stressed that there is no audit check on the budget but on the respective ministries.
This was after Koroisavou asked if Sayed-Khaiyum could show the audit report of the 2015-2016 budget so that they can see what really eventuated and what didn’t.
